 When John Lennon met Yoko Ono in 1966, he quickly fell deeply in love. He abruptly ended his marriage with his first wife, Cynthia, to be with Yoko, whom he married in early 1969 after having an affair. Despite knowing that Cynthia would need to support and raise their young son, Julian, who was just five years old at the time, he only provided her with a modest stipend as a divorce settlement.

A few years later, Cynthia found herself nearly out of money and realized she needed to secure funds for her and Julian's survival. She made the difficult decision to sell the love letters and drawings John had given her when they were young and in love. These items were filled with passionate expressions of love, such as “I love you, Cyn.”

It's easy to imagine how painful it was for Cynthia to part with these precious keepsakes. She sold them for a substantial amount, and the buyer turned out to be Paul McCartney. Paul paid a significant sum for the mementos. A few days later, Cynthia received all the letters and drawings back in the mail, now neatly framed.

They came with a note that read: “Never sell your memories. Love, Paul McCartney.”

Hence, Hey Jude (Jules --> Julian) was written by Sir Paul McCartney.
