Seller

GAWIN MO TO Pagkatapos magpirmahan ng Deed Of Absolute Sale🤔📝

Dear Follower,

UNA – Ipa-notaryo ang Deed of Absolute Sale

 • Capital Gains Tax (CGT) – 6% ng selling price o zonal value (whichever is higher)

 • Documentary Stamp Tax (DST) – 1.5% ng selling price o zonal value

Mag-fill out ng:

 • BIR Form 1706 (CGT)

 • BIR Form 2000-OT (DST)

Ihanda ang mga requirements:

 • Notarized DOAS

 • Certified True Copy ng Title

 • Tax Declaration (Land and Improvement)

 • Usually makukuha ito in 2 to 4 weeks depending sa RDO

Korupsyon

From Grease Money to Government Pork: Corruption Is a Ladder - And Everyone’s Climbing It

When I started my construction company back in 2018, akala ko ang laban ay tungkol lang sa sipag, diskarte, at kalidad.

Pero mali ako.
The real battlefield wasn’t in the bidding halls or project sites - it was in the silent exchanges under the table.

Private sector pa lang ’yun.

Engineers and procurement officers asking for “facilitation fees.”

📍 The Micro and the Macro

Parehong “processing fee.”
Magkaibang decimal point.

That’s the irony - what I saw in boardrooms is the same virus that thrives in the bureaucracy.

The same language, same justification, same shrug: “Ganyan talaga sistema.”

📍 From Shell to DPWH

When I dealt with big corporations like Shell and Rebisco, I saw the same gray zones that government contractors navigate.

In the private sector, it’s “grease money.”
In the public sector, it’s “SOP.”
In both, it’s extortion disguised as “facilitation.”

And the Discayas, the Co’s , the flood-control barons - they just learned to play the same dirty game on a grander stage.

I was playing barangay basketball while they were in the PBA Finals of Corruption.

📍 The Culture of Compromise

Sa umpisa, akala mo isolated cases lang.
Pero habang tumatagal, you realize corruption isn’t a glitch in the system - it is the system.

Every engineer who accepts a bribe becomes a seed.
Every official who signs a padded contract becomes the tree.
Every voter who says “lahat naman sila corrupt” becomes the fertilizer.

The forest we’re living in now - full of pork, ghost projects, and dirty deals - grew from those seeds.

🔴 Why I Closed My Company

I closed my company not because I failed in business, but because I refused to succeed by cheating.

then something is deeply wrong with how we define progress.

What I experienced on a small scale, the Discayas are now magnifying a thousandfold - with flood-control funds instead of construction bids, with senators instead of engineers.

Pareho lang ang logic: Who you know, not what you build.

🟥 Corruption Is Not a Crime of the Few - It’s a Culture of the Many

Ang masakit na katotohanan?

The Philippines doesn’t just have corrupt leaders - it has a corruption ecosystem.

It’s in the clerk who delays papers for “coffee money.”
It’s in the contractor who inflates bids kasi “may hatian.”
It’s in the public that tolerates it kasi “wala namang malinis.”

I walked away from my company because I couldn’t breathe in that ecosystem anymore.

But walking away doesn’t cleanse me of it - it only made me see how deep the rot goes.

If corruption on the small scale is the heartbeat of everyday business,
then corruption in government is the thunder that echoes that same rhythm -
louder, deadlier, and proudly televised.

And until we stop glorifying those who “know how to play the game,”
we’ll never build a nation that’s truly ours -
only one that’s constantly under construction,
funded by lies, and collapsing under its own greed.

Sa likod ng sakripisyo.

“Master Teacher II vs Teacher I: Sa Likod ng Ranggo at Sakripisyo.”

Maraming pumansin, ngunit walang nagsalita.

“Tatlongput limang taon,” panimula niya.

Lumuha.

“Lynn,” sagot niya, “siguro nga naging mahigpit ako.

Walang yakapan, walang eksenang parang teleserye.

Hindi man naging magkaibigan, naging magkapantay. Sa dulo, pareho silang guro. Parehong nagsakripisyo. Parehong tumanda sa pag-aalay.

At pareho silang karapat-dapat.

Empathy

When kindness turns into pressure.

Imagine this. You board a plane, find your seat — the one you carefully chose and paid extra for because you wanted the window view. You sit down, ready to relax.

Then a mother with a crying baby stops beside you.
“Can you please give up your seat for my child?” she asks — part pleading, part expecting.

You pause. You’ve been raised to be kind, to help when you can. But this time, something feels off.

You think, Why should I give up something I paid for, just because someone else didn’t plan ahead? Does empathy mean always surrendering my own comfort?

So, calmly, you say,
“I’m sorry… I’d prefer to stay in my seat.”

That’s what Jennifer, a passenger in Brazil, did.
No shouting, no rudeness — just boundaries.

But the mother began filming her, accusing her of being heartless. The video went viral.
Jennifer was attacked online, labeled cruel, even though she had simply said no.

Later, she took legal action — not for revenge, but for respect.
To remind people that kindness isn’t obedience, and saying no doesn’t make you bad.

Sometimes, standing your ground is the kindest thing you can do —
for yourself, and for the real meaning of empathy. ✈️💭

“Kung Walang Korap, Walang Mahirap” - The Slogan That Aged Like Fine Truth

🟨 The Golden Six Years of Governance

Under PNoy, the Philippines didn’t just rise - it soared.

One of the fastest-growing economies in the world, sabi ng World Bank.
The country earned its first-ever investment-grade rating, a historic milestone that told investors: “Philippines is finally trustworthy.”

Backlogs in education? - Cleared.
Military modernization? - Revived.
Fiscal discipline? - Solid.

PNoy’s administration left ₱1 trillion in surplus, lowered debt-to-GDP from 41% to 33%, and raised GDP by 52% - a legacy of responsible leadership.

Hindi ito tungkol sa pagiging perpekto.
PNoy was far from that.
Pero malinaw ang prinsipyo: Tuwid na Daan meant no shortcuts, no kickbacks, no cronies.

Government was boringly honest - and it worked.

🟪 The Leni Robredo Standard

Then came Leni - armed not with power, but with principle.

Her Office of the Vice President had a measly ₱700 million budget, zero Cabinet role, and yet - nagawang magtayo ng Angat Buhay, the largest volunteer-driven anti-poverty program in Philippine history.

In fact, she ISO-certified the OVP for transparency - something no predecessor or successor has ever done.

Because they knew: dito, walang mawawala sa bulsa mo; dito, may pag-asa.

🟥 The Fall: “Change is Coming” Became “Chains are Coming”

We traded integrity for illusion, reform for rhetoric, and hope for hashtags.

🛑 The Lesson We Forgot

Both PNoy and Leni knew the formula:
Transparency + Accountability = Prosperity.

So next time you hear those words again -

“Kung walang korap, walang mahirap.”
“Gobyernong tapat, angat buhay lahat.”

Don’t just remember the slogans.

Remember the proof.

Remember the years when our leaders were humble enough to serve and brave enough to stay clean.

And remember too the years we traded honesty for spectacle - because look where that got us, and where we are now.

Maging independent

3. Huwag mo silang laging sagipin.

Kapag palaging may “Nanay o Tatay to the rescue,” hindi nila mararanasan kung paano bumangon mag-isa. Hayaan silang magkamali, kasi doon sila matututo.

30 days na fruits and veggies lang, no fried foods, no red meat, no sugar. I also exercise regularly.

Diosdado P. Banatao

➡️Diosdado P. Banatao is a Filipino entrepreneur and engineer working in the high-tech industry, credited with having developed the first 10-Mbit Ethernet CMOS with silicon coupler data-link control and transceiver chip, the first system logic chipset for IBM's PC-XT and the PC-AT, and one of the first graphical user interface (GUI) accelerators for personal computers. A three-time start-up veteran, he co-founded Mostron, Chips and Technologies, and S3 Graphics.

➡️Banatao was born on May 23, 1946, in Iguig, Cagayan, Philippines. His father, Salvador Banatao, was a rice farmer. His mother, Rosita Banatao, was a housekeeper.

➡️Banatao is known for his rags to riches story. During his childhood, he walked barefoot on a dirt road just to reach Malabbac Elementary School. He pursued his secondary education at the Jesuit-run Ateneo de Tuguegarao. After high school, he pursued his Bachelor of Science in Electric Engineering from the Mapúa Institute of Technology and graduated cum laude.

➡️After college, he turned down several job offers, including one from Meralco. He joined Philippine Airlines as a trainee pilot, and later joined Boeing. At Boeing, he worked as a design engineer for the company's new commercial airliner and cargo transport aircraft, Boeing 747, in the United States. With the opportunity to stay in the United States, he then took his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Stanford University and finished in 1972. Banatao also joined the Homebrew Computer Club, where he met Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

➡️After finishing his master's degree, Banatao worked with different technology companies such as the National Semiconductor, Intersil, and Commodore International where he designed the first single chip, 16-bit microprocessor-based calculator. In 1981, he developed the first 10-Mbit Ethernet CMOS with silicon coupler data-link control and transceiver chip while working in Seeq Technology. He was also credited for the first system logic chip set for IBM's PC-XT and the PC-AT; the local bus concept and one of the first the first GUI accelerator chips for personal computers.

➡️In 1984, Banatao and his business partner Francis Siu, founded a high-technology company, Moston, starting with a capital of half a million US dollars. Mostron was launched as a manufacturer of motherboards. They also hired Ron Yara of Intel as a company executive. After he developed a five-chip set, he co-founded Chips and Technologies in 1985. The company developed system logic chip set for IBM's PC-XT and the PC-AT. The company earned $12 million in its first four months. After 22 months, the company went public. In 1989, Banatao launched his third start-up company, S3 Graphics, with Yara in Santa Clara, California. S3 focused on enhancing the graphic capabilities in personal computers by using a graphic accelerator chip. The key to this was Banatao's invention of a local bus. The company had an initial public offering of $30 million. In 1996, the company became the leader of the graphic-chips market, beating a strong competitor, Cirrus Logic, Inc. In the same year, Chips & Technologies was sold to Intel for about $300 million. In 2000, he decided to start his own venture capital firm named Tallwood Venture Capital with a capital of US$300 million, all of which came from his own pocket. He later sold another company for more than $1 billion, where it had less than 20 employees. Dado was also part of SiRF, where it started the consumerization of GPS after it had been declassified by the US Government.

➡️In 2010, Banatao became Ikanos Communications' CEO after Michael Gulett resigned as the company's CEO and President.

➡️In the Philippines, Banatao through his Dado Banatao Educational Foundation, annually awards five educational scholarships to intelligent Filipino students who have bright futures in the field of engineering and technology. Also, with Philippine Development Foundation which he chairs, he is helping send brilliant young Filipinos to school to help them reach their full potential. PhilDev was spun off from Ayala Foundation's program. Through his Banatao Filipino American Fund, he assists Californian high school students of Filipino heritage who are pursuing a college education in engineering. He also built a computer center at his grade school in his childhood town of Iguig in Cagayan Valley, making it the only public school with the most modern computer network in the Philippines.

Transparency protect the people.

Transparency Is the Last Line of Defense

By Dr. Anthony C. Leachon

In a time of engineered confusion and institutional retreat, transparency is no longer a virtue—it is a necessity.

The Blue Ribbon Committee has been silenced. Senator Lacson, a seasoned truth-seeker, has resigned. Mayor Benjie Magalong, a symbol of integrity, has stepped away from the Integrity and Compliance Initiative.

These resignations are not routine—they are warnings.

Meanwhile, the small fishes are prosecuted while the whales dance freely. The architects of the most scandal-ridden budget in our history remain untouched.

President Marcos Jr. now casts himself as a whistleblower, distancing from a budget he signed. But the people are not confused. They are watching.

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) stands as the last credible hope for truth. But hope without transparency is hollow.

Livestreaming the investigation is not a luxury—it is a public right. Press briefings and filtered summaries will not suffice. The people deserve to see the facts unfold in real time, without spin, without choreography.

Because when institutions shut down, when leaders resign, and when accountability is delayed, transparency becomes the only line of defense against impunity.

Let the cameras roll. Let the truth speak.

Because in the end, silence protects the powerful.

And transparency protects the people.

Betty Go Belmonte

Ban Political Dynasties

Political Dynasties: The Ultimate Family Business – At Our Expense

Isang Pamilya, Isang Gobyerno

Tingnan ang sitwasyon:

* Ferdinand Marcos Jr. – Presidente ng Republika ng Pilipinas

* Imee Marcos – Senador

* Martin Romualdez – Speaker ng House of Representatives

* Sandro Marcos – Congressman ng Ilocos Norte

* Duterte dynasty sa Davao (Rodrigo Duterte, Sara Duterte, Paolo Duterte, Sebastian Duterte)

* Cayetano dynasty sa Taguig (Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, at kanilang mga asawa at kamag-anak)

* Estrada-Ejercito dynasty sa San Juan at Manila (Joseph Estrada, Jinggoy Estrada, JV Ejercito)

* Garcia dynasty sa Cebu

* Zubiri dynasty sa Bukidnon

* Villafuerte dynasty sa Camarines Sur

* Revilla family sa Cavite

Hindi ito simpleng pagsunod sa batas, kundi pagbaluktot sa diwa ng Konstitusyon na nagsasaad sa Article II, Section 26: “The State shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service, and prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law.”

Bakit hanggang ngayon walang Anti-Dynasty Law?

1. Mas May Pera

Prevention

PREVENTION is better than CURE. ⛑️⛑️⛑️

Why do we wait until our riverbanks and coastlines are overrun by informal settlers before enforcing land-use and no-build zones?

Neglecting these rules drives down land values, degrades the environment, and leaves communities exposed to disasters. Then we spend even more on calamity funds and costly infrastructure that drain public resources and scar our natural landscape.

Prevention lies in proactive planning.
Planning is foresight, it saves lives, land, and public funds.

Strict compliance to land use, and respect for nature’s boundaries is the safest, environmentally friendly and the most cost-effective protection a city or nation can have.

Just let the right team of experts do the job.

Be healty

My dad passed away in his early 40s.

That’s one of the biggest reasons why I do what I do now.

He was young. Akalain mo 40s pa lang. 😬

Tapos anim kaming magkakapatid.

Pagod. Sakitin. Mataas ang BP.

I didn’t know it then, pero lifestyle pala talaga.

Years of not moving enough, not eating right, not resting well —

unti-unting bumabawi ang katawan.

Until one day, he was just… gone.

I coach people in their 40s and 50s and even 70s.

not just to look good,

but to stay strong.

To be present sa buhay ng pamilya nila.

To feel alive, not just surviving.

Kung tatay ka, nanay ka, asawa,

someone out there needs you well.

Not just around — but strong, functional, joyful.

And if no one told you this before, let me be the first:

You still have time.

You still matter.

What To Do During an Earthquake?

🏠 If You Are Indoors (at Home, School, or Office)

1. Stay where you are! Do not run outside immediately — most injuries happen from falling objects or collapsing walls near exits.
2. DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON!
DROP to your hands and knees before the shaking knocks you down. COVER your head and neck under a sturdy table or desk. HOLD ON to the furniture until the shaking stops.
3. Stay away from windows, glass, and heavy furniture that might topple.
4. If in bed, stay there — protect your head with a pillow.
5. Do not use elevators. Use stairs after the shaking stops.
6. Turn off gas, electricity, and water valves once it’s safe to do so to prevent fires or leaks.

🏢 If You Are in a High-Rise Building

1. Move away from windows and shelves.
2. Do not rush to stairways or elevators while the shaking is happening.
3. Hold on to a stable object and brace yourself.
4. Once the shaking stops, evacuate calmly using the stairs.
5. Check for cracks or falling debris before exiting.
6. Proceed to the designated evacuation area.

🚗 If You Are in a Car

1. Pull over safely and stop in an open area — away from bridges, trees, power lines, and tall buildings.
2. Stay inside the vehicle with your seatbelt fastened until the shaking stops.
3. Turn on hazard lights and listen to the radio for updates.
4. After the shaking stops, drive carefully — avoid damaged roads and fallen debris.
5. Do not block emergency routes.

🏬 If You Are in a Mall, Theater, or Public Place

1. Stay calm — do not rush to the exits.
2. Take cover under a sturdy table or counter.
3. Protect your head and neck from falling objects.
4. Follow staff or security instructions.
5. After shaking stops, exit slowly and avoid glass walls or shelves that may still fall.

🏫 If You Are in School

1. Duck, cover, and hold under your desk.
2. Face away from windows and glass.
3. Wait for your teacher’s signal before evacuating.
4. Proceed in an orderly line to your school’s open evacuation area.

🚆 If You Are in a Train (MRT/LRT or PNR)

1. Hold firmly to a handrail or support pole.
2. Stay inside the train while it’s moving.
3. Wait for the train to stop and follow staff instructions.
4. Do not panic or push others.
5. Avoid power lines or metal structures outside the train.

🏙️ If You Are Outdoors

1. Move to an open area away from buildings, trees, lampposts, and power lines.
2. Stay alert for falling debris, glass, or signboards.
3. If near the coast, move to higher ground immediately — a tsunami may follow a strong quake.
4. Stay away from cliffs or slopes that may collapse.

🏥 If You Are in a Hospital

1. Stay with your patient if safe.
2. Protect your head and neck with your arms or pillow.
3. Avoid moving beds or equipment during the shaking.
4. Follow the instructions of medical staff or safety marshals.

✈️ If You Are in an Airport

1. Stay away from glass panels and heavy fixtures.
2. Do not rush to exits or escalators.
3. Follow airport emergency announcements and staff directions.
4. Wait for clearance before resuming travel.

⚠️ After the Shaking Stops

1. Check yourself and others for injuries.
2.Evacuate calmly if necessary — do not use elevators.
3.Be alert for aftershocks.
4.Listen to official advisories (PHIVOLCS, NDRRMC, or local DRRMO).
5. Avoid coastal areas if a tsunami warning is issued.
6.Help others but stay safe.
7. Continue to pray for everyone's safety. 🙏

Her Thoughts

Prayer for the Philippines 🇵🇭🙏

Dear Lord,

Please cover our families with Your comfort and loving arms. Bless us with Your protection at all times, Lord. Keep our homes and all structures covered and blessed by Your holy blood. Help us to be of service to our kababayans. We need You, oh Lord — we need You. 🙏🇵🇭

Boat is sinking

BACKS TO THE RIVER: HOW SARA DUTERTE’S TEAM TURNS ATTACKS INTO ARMOR

In ancient Chinese warfare, generals used a ruthless tactic when they were outnumbered: they cornered their troops in front of a river so there was no escape. No retreat, no surrender. When soldiers know there is nowhere to run, they fight harder. Fear turns into loyalty. Desperation turns into obedience.

That is exactly what Sara Duterte’s advisers and communication team are doing now — cornering their followers emotionally so they will fight blindly for her, no matter the issue.

1. Cornered, Not Conspired

It’s true that Sara Duterte is being attacked from many sides. Marcos, Romualdez, Kakampinks, Leftists — everyone has their own agenda. Totoo, pinopolitika siya. Pero hindi lahat ng pinopolitika ay inosente. In politics, being attacked is not a badge of virtue; often, it’s the price you pay for poor performance.

And let’s be honest: everything in politics is political. The whole system runs on power, influence, and survival. So the line “pinopolitika lang ako” is a weak defense. Politics is not persecution; it is the arena of accountability.

Her inner circle knows this, yet they twist the narrative. They turn every question into “pambabastos,” every investigation into “panggigipit.” Parang sundalong itinulak sa pampang ng ilog, her followers are made to believe that the only choice left is to fight, even when their loyalty is being used.

Yes, politics can be cruel but governance is not theater. Leaders are judged by outcomes, not by applause.

2. Turning Weakness into a Rallying Cry

The more Sara looks cornered, the louder her defenders scream. Every criticism becomes personal, every issue turns into “fake news.” But beneath the noise lies a record that’s hard to defend.

As DepEd Secretary, she failed to deliver basic reforms. The overpriced laptop deal remained unresolved. Thousands of classrooms were left unfinished, yet she blamed the DPWH instead of fixing the system. The feeding program for students was spoiled literally and figuratively. Kahit pa minana niya ang ilang problema, wala siyang ipinakitang solusyon. A true leader inherits problems and solves them, not points fingers.

A real leader cleans the mess; she didn’t even touch the mop.

And before anyone says, “lahat naman may issue,” remember that accountability is not comparative. We don’t excuse wrongdoing by saying others do it too.

3. Terrain Control: The Battlefield of Emotion

Chinese generals used terrain to win wars; Sara’s team uses emotion to win sympathy. They want people to see not the COA findings or DepEd data, but a woman being bullied by the powerful. Yet while this drama unfolds, DepEd’s own reports show declining student performance, teacher shortages, and a worsening lack of learning materials under her leadership.

That’s not politics — that’s performance. Public service is not a teleserye.

4. The Real Danger: When the River Floods Back

But illusions don’t last forever. Once people realize that being attacked is not the same as being right, the walls of defense will crumble. No amount of emotional propaganda can hide unpaid teachers, broken schools, or spoiled food from feeding programs. When those truths rise again, they flood everything.

Her political machinery cannot rely forever on the narrative of persecution. Because truth, like water, always finds its way back.

5. The Pattern of Desperation

This playbook isn’t new. Duterte Sr. used the same script — the “probinsyano versus elites” narrative even while holding the full power of the presidency. The same tactic was used to justify EJKs (“kalaban ng gobyerno”), to silence media (“fake news daw”), and to dismiss the ICC (“panghihimasok ng dayuhan”). Now the same story is being recycled — same family, same tactic, same manipulation of loyalty.

And now, her camp is crying foul that Boying Remulla was appointed Ombudsman claiming it’s part of a plot to destroy Sara. But investigating corruption is the Ombudsman’s job. Billions were allegedly pocketed from flood control projects with witnesses naming Martin Romualdez and Zaldy Co, yet her supporters frame Remulla’s appointment as a political attack.

The irony is clear. During Rodrigo Duterte’s time, he himself tried to impeach then Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales after she investigated corruption in his administration but he failed. Now the same people who cheered that attempt are crying persecution.

The problem is not the ordinary supporters who believe her. The real problem is the circle that keeps feeding them the illusion of persecution to hide incompetence and corruption.

In the end, this is not courage, it’s desperation disguised as loyalty. Real strength comes from accountability, not victimhood. Real leadership doesn’t corner people to make them fight.

And when the river finally floods, no amount of political spin can float a sinking ship.

Noynoy Legacy.

———————————————

SA ILALIM NI PNOY

Under PNoy, there were only two kinds of Cabinet meetings that would practically be held the whole day.

One was the fiscal budget meeting where PNoy would go thru the proposed budget for the next year w/ a calculator beside him & asked the logic of the expenditures.

The second set of meetings is yung NEDA Board. Lahat ng govt projects over a certain amount kailangan dumaan sa NEDA Board.

Sa meeting, the Cabsec proponent will defend the Project & almost always may tanong si PNoy. Kung hindi masagot ang logic ng laki ng proyekto or any questions he asked, submit a written explanation.

Why do i recall these two kinds of meetings? If one came unprepared, gisang gisa ang Cabsec at ang staff niya & no matter how one prepared, you’d still get questions from left field.

PNoy always took to heart that in meetings w/c involved spending people’s money, he came prepared, read all the proposals, went thru each item line by line & made notes to ask.

PNoy was exacting when required & demanded the same standard from his people. In the end, we came out w/ tired backs but nonetheless wiser. 💪

Robert DuBoise wrong accusation.

At just 18 years old, Robert DuBoise was accused of murdering a young woman in Tampa, Florida, in 1983. The evidence? A supposed bite mark and testimony from a jailhouse informant.

He spent 37 years behind bars, serving a life sentence for a crime he never committed. Decades later, as part of a case review, an old biological sample was re-tested using modern DNA technology. The results were clear: DuBoise was innocent.

The city of Tampa awarded him $14 million in compensation, one of the largest payouts in Florida’s history for a wrongful conviction.

Now free, DuBoise faces the daunting task of rebuilding his life in a world that has changed almost beyond recognition. His story is a powerful reminder of how flawed legal systems can destroy lives — and why truth and justice must never be rushed.

Diabetiko

Silent appointee

The Duterte appointee who instigated what is perhaps the most corrupt, trillion-peso plunder in our country’s history.

Samuel Martires wasn’t always a controversial figure. Born in 1949 in the town of Palapag, Northern Samar, he rose quietly through the legal ranks. He served as provincial trial judge in La Union and later became Sandiganbayan justice.

A San Beda law graduate and a fellow Bedan of Rodrigo Duterte, he was known early on for his stern, old-school demeanor.

In 2017, Rodrigo Duterte tapped Martires to join the Supreme Court, calling him “bright and fair.” A year later, in July 2018, Duterte hand-picked him again for one of the most powerful and supposedly independent posts in government. The Ombudsman. Thus began a seven-year, nonrenewable term as the nation’s anti-corruption watchdog.

It first sounded promising. A veteran judge overseeing justice itself. But as the years unfolded, Martires didn’t just guard the gate. He slowly closed it.

One of his earliest moves was to lock down access to public officials’ SALNs. Under his new rules, no one could access these documents unless the official being investigated personally allowed it, or a court ordered it.

Even journalists who had long used SALNs to expose corruption were effectively shut out. Later, he even proposed punishing people who “comment” on SALNs with up to five years in jail.

It was a stunning reversal for an office meant to fight corruption. Transparency advocates called it a “curtain over accountability.” The Center for Media Freedom and the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism said it crippled the public’s right to know. Martires defended it as “protecting privacy.”

It looked more like protecting thieves.

As corruption scandals swirled across government, the Ombudsman’s office under Martires fell silent.

Official records show that in 2024, only 138 cases were filed before the Sandiganbayan. It was the lowest in recent memory. When asked why, Martires brushed it off, saying numbers don’t define justice. But to the keen observer, it looked like a watchdog taking a nap.

Then there was the selective fire.

When the issue involved powerful names, including Vice President Sara Duterte who was accused of making public threats, Martires’ office said there were “no valid grounds” to investigate.

Yet, when local officials like Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia were accused of minor administrative offenses, he swiftly issued a six-month suspension, triggering court battles and accusations of politics. The pattern was clear.

Tough on the powerless, timid with the powerful.

Perhaps the most jaw-dropping moment came when Martires publicly mused about abolishing the Office of the Ombudsman itself, arguing it had become “ineffective” because witnesses were afraid to testify.

It was like hearing a fire chief suggest burning down the fire station because fires were too hard to put out. Former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales called it dangerous, warning it would “open the floodgates to corruption.”

Martires also ended lifestyle checks, calling them “illogical,” even though they’d long been a basic tool for catching unexplained wealth.

Even prior to the end of his term, the public had largely tuned him out. People stopped expecting anything from his office. The watchdog that was supposed to keep officials honest had become, in many eyes, the government’s most polite bystander.

So when news broke that DOJ Chief Boying Remulla would replace him, the reaction was almost audible. There was a collective sigh of relief.

Martires’s exit didn’t just mark the end of a term. For many Filipinos, it felt like the end of an era of silence. After years of secrecy, stalled cases, and softened accountability, the watchdog who dimmed the lights is finally gone.

Good riddance to the Ombudsman who was ironically the enabler of corruption all throughout the time of Duterte.

Integrity test.

 INTEGRITY TEST?

(1) If you usually put more sugar in your tea when in a hotel than you do at home, You're likely to be corrupt!

(2) If you use more tissue in a public washroom than you do at home, you are a potential thief if given opportunity.

(3) If you serve yourself more food than you can finish, not minding whether it will go round, just because someone else is footing the bill, you're greedy. And you will steal if opportunity presents itself.

(4) If you usually jump queues, you have the potential for abusing office if given a powerful position.

(5) If you are more concerned about knowing someone's surname rather than first name, you're likely to be a tribal bigot. It’s even worse when someone tells you their name & then you ask, "which tribe is that?" It means you are tribalistic.🙄

(6) If you usually overtake while in traffic jam or have no regard for traffic lights, then you would easily embezzle public funds if you're given a position at a public office since you hate regulation .

(7) If you channel waste or dirty water from your compound to a neighbour's compound rather than managing it, you're ill-mannered. You don't love your neighbour as yourself.

(8) If you look at this post and wonder whether it was really necessary to talk about these issues; then you are very dishonest and you would easily cover up ills in the society for your own benefit.😅

LET US TRY TO BE PEOPLE OF GOOD CHARACTER WHEREVER WE FIND OURSELVES.

4. Huwag ikumpara sa “kamag-anak o kapitbahay na marunong” – Ang propesyonal na electrician ay may training at mas maaasahan kaysa sa DIY o hindi lisensyado.
