Help yourself.

For many years I've been listening to all concerns, big or small things, about getting old is so difficult --- arthritis, memory loss, morning aches, hearing problem, poor eyesight, high blood pressure, and a lot more. Indeed, it's so frightening.

But there are five simple "help-yourself" steps towards healthier you at old age..

Step 1: Care for yourself.

Get a regular health examinations. Get immunized. Get you blood pressure check regularly. Regularly visit your doctor.

(Alagaan niyo po ang inyong sarili.)

Step 2: Get some exercise.

Stretch. Strengthen. Build stamina.

* Stretching increase blood flow and gets your body ready for exercise. It improves flexibility and relieves stress. It loosen up tight muscles. (Mag-unat unat ng mga kalamnan at buto. Walang gastos yan.) 😊

* Strength training maintains bones, improves balance, and increases muscle strength. 😊

* Aerobic (endurance) exercises like walking strengthens the heart and improves overall fitness by increasing the body's ability to use oxygen. Walang gastos yan.) 😊

Step 3: Balance your diet.

Low fat and salt diet, high in fiber, fruits and vegetables.

Getting enough nutrients needed for good health can be more difficult as you age due to poor teeth or dentures; loneliness and depression and diminish appetite. For those reasons, multivitamins and minerals supplementation may fill up the deficiencies in their diets. (Walang kamatayang paalala... 😊

Step 4: Prevent accidents

Examples: Install handrails at stairs and bathroom; place rubber mats on floors; have good light source; wear proper shoes/slippers; use walking support like cane or walker etc. (Iwasan maaksidente!

Step 5: Stay mentally sharp.

Seek out challenges. Read. Write.

Loneliness kills. Stay connected. Have a social network.

Believe in yourself. Have a sense of independence. (Maging aktibo. Be a productive citizen of the Republic of the Philippines. In short, wag tamad. hehehe 😊

NOTE:

Joke only po. 😊

Payo lang po yan. Pwedeng sundin at pwede dedmahin lang po.

Have a great life ahead! God bless.

All

All men are created equal but not all ideas are. Ideas come with a variance in terms of depth, potential, and quality. So if you disagree with another person because you do not like the opinions or the ideas, do not hate the person. You can contest the ideas in a respectful way but you do not have to fight the person. #PassionPurposeProductivity #StartTheWeekRight

Never stay.

A father said to his daughter “You have graduated with honors, here is a car I bought many years ago. It is pretty old now. But before I give it to you, take it to the used car lot downtown and tell them I want to sell it and see how much they offer you for it.

The daughter went to the used car lot, returned to her father and said, “They offered me $1,000 because the said it looks pretty worn out.”

The father said, now “Take it to the pawn shop.” The daughter went to the pawn shop, returned to her father and said,”The pawn shop offered only $100 because it is an old car.”

The father asked his daughter to go to a car club now and show them the car. The daughter then took the car to the club, returned and told her father,” Some people in the club offered $100,000 for it because it’s a Nissan Skyline R34, it's an iconic car and sought by many collectors”

Now the father said this to his daughter, “The right place values you the right way,” If you are not valued, do not be angry, it means you are in the wrong place. Those who know your value are those who appreciate you......Never stay in a place where no one sees your value.

Never!

Changes

 Charles Bradley, Menahan Street Band

I feel unhappy
I feel so sad
I lost the best friend
That I ever had
She was my woman
I loved her so
But it's too late now
I've let her go
I'm going through changes
I'm going through Changes (in my life)
We shared the years
We shared each day
In love together
We found a way
But soon the world
Had its evil way
My heart was blinded
Love went astray
I'm going through changes
I'm going through Changes (in my life)
It took so long
To realize
That I can still hear her
Last goodbyes
Now all my days
Are filled with tears
Wish I could go back
And change these years
I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes,
In my life, in my life,
There gotta be a change in my life
This little changes, in my life

RIP

RIP our beloved elementary teacher Mrs. Bella Sagala 9/19/2020.

How to prevent diabetic retinopathy

GARDEN CITY, New York – According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 100 million adults in the United States have diabetes or prediabetes. The disease is linked with a host of subsequent health issues, including blindness and diabetic retinopathy, the latter of which affects almost one-third of adults aged 40 and older who have diabetes.

Ophthalmologist Dr Mark Fleckner specializes in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, including treatment for diabetic retinopathy. A New York board-certified ophthalmologist, Mark R Fleckner MD emphasizes that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. He is here to explain what diabetic retinopathy is and how you can prevent it.

Diabetic retinopathy is a result of persistently high blood glucose levels where the sugar in the blood inhibits blood flow to the retinal tissue. The restricted blood flow can weaken and damage the vessels, which may result in a hemorrhage. This hemorrhaging can result in partial or complete vision loss.

People with type 1 or type 2 diabetes are at risk. However, those that do not have their blood sugar under control or who have had the disease for a long time are at greater risk.

Dr Mark Fleckner advises the best thing you can do to prevent diabetic retinopathy, as well as other diabetes-related issues, is to keep your blood sugar tightly under control. This means working closely with your doctor and a nutritionist or dietician, eating a diabetes-friendly diet, and taking insulin if prescribed by your doctor.

Initially, Dr Mark Fleckner says, people with diabetic retinopathy may not realize they have it. They may have blurry vision or difficulty seeing objects far away, but of course, these are not just symptoms of diabetes or diabetic retinopathy but can also be symptoms of other vision difficulties. Diabetic retinopathy becomes more apparent, Dr. Mark Fleckner said, when the person sees dark, floating spots that look web-like or stringy. They may experience patches of complete darkness, and eye fluid may leak from the retina. Conversely, the eye may be unable to drain at all. Leakage or blockage like this is known as diabetic macular edema or neovascular edema, respectively.

Mark R Fleckner MD said it is essential to seek attention from an eye care specialist immediately if you experience any of these symptoms. Not treating the condition can lead to blindness.

It is also important to see your eye doctor regularly to monitor eye health for this and other issues. If your ophthalmologist knows you are diabetic, they can test for retinopathy. The test begins by dilating the pupils and inspecting the eye for signs of leakage or blockage. The doctor may also perform a fluorescein angiography to further inspect the blood vessels in the eye, or use optical coherence tomography to get a different view of the eye and check for swelling.

If your doctor notices signs of retinopathy, they may prescribe medications to reduce swelling and slow vision loss. If the issue has progressed, a vitrectomy may be needed. With this surgery, Mark R Fleckner MD explained, the doctor removes some of the fluid from the leaking vessels or reduces the swelling.

Motivate

Steve Jobs died a billionaire, with a fortune of $ 7 billion, at the age of 56 from pancreatic cancer, and here are some of his last words:

"In other eyes, my life is the essence of success, but aside from work, I have a little joy, and in the end wealth is just a fact of life to which I am accustomed.

At this moment, lying on the bed, sick and remembering all my life, I realize that all my recognition and wealth that I have is meaningless in the face of imminent death.

You can hire someone to drive a car for you, make money for you – but you can not rent someone to carry the disease for you. One can find material things, but there is one thing that can not be found when it is lost – “life”.

Treat yourself well, and cherish others. As we get older we are smarter, and we slowly realize that the watch is worth $ 30 or $ 300 – both of which show the same time.

Whether we carry a purse worth $ 30 or $ 300 – the amount of money in the wallets are the same. Whether we drive a car worth $ 150,000, or a car worth $ 30,000 – the road and distance are the same, we reach the same destination.

If we drink a bottle worth $ 300 or wine worth $ 10 – the “stroller” will be the same.

If the house we live in is 300 square meters, or 3000 square meters – the loneliness is the same.

Your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world. Whether you’re flying first class, or economy class – if the plane crashes, you crash with it.

So, I hope you understand that when you have friends or someone to talk to – this is true happiness!

Five Undeniable Facts-

1. Do not educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy. – So when they grow up they will know the value of things, not the price.

2. Eat your food as medicine, otherwise you will need to eat your medicine as food.

3. Whoever loves you will never leave you, even if he has 100 reasons to give up. He will always find one reason to hold on.

4. There is a big difference between being human and human being.

5. If you want to go fast – go alone! But if you want to go far – go together!

And in conclusion,

The six best doctors in the world.

1. Sunlight

2. Rest

3. Exercise

4. Diet

5. Self-confidence

6. Family/Friends

Keep them in all stages of life and enjoy a healthy life.”

Motivation

Still Empty...

(but to be fair hindi nman lahat ay ganyan)

Yun iba, nakabasa lng ng libro about sa author na sikat, matalino, successful at pagkatapos nun they will preach you about motivation, about quotes, etc etc... Empty...

The other form that I observed is yun may nakita at napanood lng sa Youtube, Tedtalk etc, then after that biglang feeling hype, feeling woke at nagbibida na sa kaibigan or kakilala nya, sa wall nya sa fb. Empty...

Bakit ko nasabi?

Dahil mismong sya walang growth sa buhay nya, nagiging ganun lng sya after nya makapanood or makapakinig ng inspiring message. Parang napossess lng sandali then after that high wala na, back to old life. At sa usong uso culture na ito makikita mo yun sinasabing, He need a new/another pill of motivation to get inspired again.

Whats my point???

Bakit kaya? Because not everybody wants to hear words. Because Action is louder than any words...

Sa panahon ngayon sa sobrang dami ng post about motivation, people are so fed up and some of them maybe they haven’t realized yet, but they are like zombies. Paano? Yun tango na lng ng tango sa nakikita at nabasa, sunod lng ng sunod kahit ayaw o hindi naintindihan simply because, ayaw nilang makita silang mali ng society or culture na ito.

True motivation, hindi ito basta nauuso lng. This should be a way of life and something that can be seen in you.

Whats my point?

Next motivation please 😓😓

Reputation

A good reputation comes in handy when trying to convince someone why they should believe you. You and I should build a lifetime of building trust and credibility. In doing so a world of opportunity opens because people want to work and do business not only with people who are competent but more so with people they can trust. Never compromise on ethics and lose the trust of people who believe in you. #PassionPurposeProductivity

How to Treat a Fungal Ear Infection

Known as otomycosis or"swimmer's ear," fungal ear infections primarily affect the ear canal. Otomycosis accounts for 7% of those diagnosed with otitis externa or inflammation and infection of the ear canal. The most common causes of otomycosis are the fungal species Candida and Aspergillus. Fungal ear infections are commonly confused with bacterial ear infections. Most often, doctors will treat your ear infection as if it is bacterial. Oftentimes, doctors prescribe antibiotics, but since they don't fight fungal infections, no change occurs. Afterward, your doctor will give you a variety of at-home and prescription fungal treatments.

How to Treat a Fungal Ear Infection

  1. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 1
    1
Recognize abnormal ear itching (pruritis). It is fairly normal for your ears to itch. The hundreds of little hairs on and in your ear can be tickled easily. If your ear itches constantly and scratching/rubbing doesn’t satiate your problem, you might have a fungal infection. This is the primary way to identify an ear infection caused by fungus.
  2. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 2
    2
Recognize ear pain (otalgia). You’ll almost always experience ear pain in one ear — not both, because the fungal infection is local. Sometimes, sufferers describe this as “pressure” or “fullness.” The pain can be mild or severe. The pain usually intensifies the more you touch your ear.[2]
  3. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 3
    3
Check for ear discharge (otorrhea). Fungal ear discharge is usually thick and can be clear, white, yellow, and sometimes bloody/foul-smelling. Do not confuse this with normal waxy buildup. Take a Q-Tip and swab your ear (being careful not to insert the tip into your ear canal). There will be a normal level of waxy buildup, but if either the amount or color seems off, you may have a fungal infection in your ear.[3]
  4. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 4
    4
Check for hearing loss. A fungal ear infection may present itself in the form of muffled speech/sounds, difficulty understanding words, and trouble hearing consonants. Sometimes, people recognize their hearing loss more by a change in behavior. Frustration brews as a result of one’s inability to hear, so said person withdraws from conversations and social settings.[4]

Method2
Using Medications

  1. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 5
    1
Know when to consult your doctor. When you have an ear infection, it is best to visit your doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and to find out the best course of treatment. If you are experiencing intense pain, losing your hearing ability, or experiencing any other unusual symptoms, you should seek professional help.[5]
    • Your doctor can clean your ear canal thoroughly with a suction device and provide medications to treat your ear infection.
    • Your doctor may also recommend over-the-counter medications for pain or prescribe medication if the pain is severe.[6]
  2. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 6
    2
Use clotrimazole to treat fungal infections in the ear. Clotrimazole 1% solution is the most popular antifungal medicine that doctors prescribe for the treatment of fungal ear infections. It kills both Candida and Aspergillus. This drug works by inhibiting the enzyme used to convert ergosterol. Ergosterol is needed by the fungus to maintain the integrity of its membrane. With clotrimazole, the fungal growth is inhibited by depleting levels of ergosterol.[7]
    • Keep clotrimazole’s side-effects in mind. These may be ear irritation, burning, or discomfort.[8] However, side effects are not as common with the topical forms of clotrimazole as with the oral form.
    • To use clotrimazole, wash your hands with running water and mild soap. Clean the ear with warm water until any visible secretions are gone. Softly pat the ear dry with a clean cloth. Do not vigorously wipe the remaining liquid off. Doing so can exacerbate the condition.[9]
    • Lie down or tilt your head sideways to expose the ear canal. Straighten your ear canal by pulling your earlobe downward, then backward. Apply two to three drops of clotrimazole into your ear. Keep your ear tilted for two to three minutes to allow the solution to reach the infected area. And then tip your head, pouring out the medicine into a napkin.[10]
    • Replace the cap to the bottle and store the medication out of sight and reach of children. Store it in a dry and cool place. Avoid direct sunlight or heat.[11]
    • If clotrimazole does not get rid of your ear infection, then your doctor may decide to try a different antifungal agent, such as miconazole.[12]
  3. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 7
    3
Get a prescription for fluconazole (Diflucan). If you have a more severe fungal ear infection, fluconazole may be prescribed by your doctor. It works just like clotrimazole. The most common side effects are a headache, nausea, dizziness, change in taste, loose stools, abdominal pain, skin rash, and elevation of liver enzymes.[13]
    • Fluconazole is taken in tablet form. Doctors normally prescribe one dose of 200mg for one day and then 100mg daily for three to five days.[14]
  4. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 8
    4
Avoid antibiotics. Antibiotics are only effective in the treatment of bacterial infections, so they will not combat fungal infections.
    • Antibiotics can even worsen fungal infections since they can potentially kill good bacteria residing in the ear or other parts of the body — the bacteria that is fighting your fungal infection.[15]
  5. Image titled Avoid Aspartame Step 9
    5
Follow up with your physician. You will need to see your physician again in a week or so to see if the treatment is working. If the treatment is not working, then your doctor may try a different option.
    • Also, make sure to call your physician if your symptoms get worse or do not improve.

Method3

1
Recognizing Symptoms of a Fungal Ear Infection

How to Treat a Fungal Ear Infection

  1. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 9
    1
Use hydrogen peroxide. Add two to three drops to the infected ear with a medicine dropper. Let the drops sit in the ear canal for five to 10 minutes and tilt your head to let them drain. This measure will help soften any crusted or hardened debris in the ear canal, which will, in turn, help wash any fungal colonies out of your ear.[16]
  2. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 10
    2
Use a hairdryer. Turn it on to the lowest setting possible and place its end at least 10 inches (25.4 cm) from the infected ear. This method will dry any moisture present in the ear canal, which will hinder the growth of fungus.[17]
    • Be very careful not to burn yourself.
  3. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 11
    3
Apply a warm compress to the affected ear. Get a clean towel and soak it in warm water. Ensure that the towel is not too hot. Place the warm towel over the infected ear and wait until it cools down. The measure helps relieve pain, without having to take pain-relieving drugs. It also increases blood flow to the infected area, which leads to faster recovery.[18]
  4. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 12
    4
Use rubbing alcohol and apple cider vinegar. Mix both in a 1:1 ratio. With a medicine dropper, add a few drops to the infected ear. Let the drops sit in the ear for 10 minutes and tilt your head to let them drain. The mixture can be utilized every four hours for up to two weeks.
    • The rubbing alcohol is a drying agent, which will get rid of moisture in the ear canal causing the fungal infection. It also disinfects the skin of the ear canal. The acidity of vinegar slows the growth of the fungus, as Candida and Aspergillus prefer a "basic" environment for optimal growth.[19]
    • This mixture will disinfect and dry out the ear, lessening the duration of the infection.[20]
  5. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 13
    5
Eat foods rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C is needed for the growth and repair of tissues damaged by a fungal ear infection. It helps the body produce collagen, a protein instrumental in making tissues like skin, cartilage, and blood vessels. Doctors recommend supplements of 500 to 1,000 mg of vitamin C per day with food.
    • Excellent dietary sources of vitamin include citrus fruit (oranges, limes, lemons), berries (blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, raspberries), pineapples, watermelon, papaya, broccoli, spinach, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and cauliflower.
  6. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 14
    6
Use garlic oil. Take a capsule of garlic oil, puncture it, and pour it into the infected ear. Let it sit for 10 minutes and tilt your head to drain the oil. It can be repeated daily for up to two weeks. In studies, garlic oil has been found to have antifungal effects on Aspergillus (one of two main causes of fungal ear infections).
    • Furthermore, garlic oil has been found to have similar or better rates of cure when compared to prescription medications used to treat fungal ear infections.[21]
  7. Image titled Treat a Fungal Ear Infection Step 15
    7
Use olive oil to clean the ear. If you have a fungal infection, there will be whitish or yellowish secretions from the ear. In addition to this, there will also be an overproduction of wax. All these can cause blockage in the eustachian tube. Olive oil is a perfect wax softener.
    • With a medicine dropper, add three drops to the infected ear. Let the drops sit in the ear canal for five to 10 minutes and tilt your head to let them drain. It will soften earwax (cerumen) and any other hardened secretions in the ear canal and facilitate its removal (much like hydrogen peroxide). Olive oil also has properties to decrease the inflammation associated with fungal ear infections. The anti-inflammatory properties of olive oil are mediated by high levels of polyphenols present in the oil.[22]
