Grow business

 “Mommy N, I want to develop more products for my business. ”


If you’re thinking of adding more products apart from the ones you’re already selling…


STOP.


Focus first on the products that you are already selling before you consider expanding.


Why?

 

It’s best to stick first on one form of product. So that in the long run, people will become familiar with your business.


Just like my mentee who sells empanadas.


Instead of exploring other product lines, why not stick to her well-known empanada? 


For instance, she could come up with different variants of it: 


Beef, pork, chicken, tuna, ham and cheese. 


With egg, without egg.


Spicy, extra spicy. 


Cheesy, extra cheesy. 


When people mention her store name, they’ll know that it is empanada. 


It’s good to have ambitions, dreams, and goals for our business. 


However, we cannot do everything all at once.


First of all, different products mean we need additional capital, a different set of skill and processes. 


Another thing is that, the one who is preparing the product would get confused because there are other recipes to follow. 


Therefore, it’s hard to control the quality. 


So, focus first on improving the product that’s already being sold in the market. 


It’s not a good idea to want to sell everything that others are selling. Take it from me.
