RIP

Myrna Legaspi Mateo, age 73, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024.

Myrna was born on February 22, 1951 in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines to Rafael and Danila Mateo. She graduated from The Philippines College of Commerce with a banking and commerce degree. Myrna moved to Canada in 1973 and began work at Acklands Ltd. She remained with the company up until her retirement 44 years later in 2017. Myrna was quiet, private, strong-willed and stubborn but equally had a generous heart of gold. In April of 1982 Myrna took on the role of mom to her two young nieces, Liezl and Cheryl.

Despite being a reserved person, Myrna volunteered with Magdaragat Philippines Inc and could be found yearly selling souvenirs at the Pearl of the Orient Pavilion. She supported Liezl and Cheryl’s involvement in Magdaragat as well and became a dance mom, chaperone, and singer with the Mabuhay Serenaders.

Myrna was also involved in the Bacoor Association of Manitoba which provided a sense of community for those missing home. Myrna served as treasurer for 8 years.

Myrna is preceded in death by her father Rafael, mother Danila, brother Isagani and brother-in-law Eddie Santiaguel. She is survived by her sisters and in-laws Luz Santiaguel, Lucita Mateo, Angie Mateo, Isabel and Felipe Dimaunahan and Nancy Mateo, nieces Liezl Mateo, Cherylyn and Greg Lintao Jr. and grandsons Logan and Grayson. She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews Mylee Santiaguel, Joycee and Ryan San Miguel (Lincoln & Trinity), Denis and Joanna Dimaunahan (Avery), Audrey and Erwin Vitug (Christian & Jolie), Naomi and Junsay Reyes (Isaiah and Isabella), Rafdaniel Mateo, Danisa Mateo & David Crowchild (Alaia).
