Kapit lang.

Patience is a virtue: Meet Sir Big Boss Nic.

Are you disappointed due to PRC board exams being canceled or re-scheduled for few more months due to unpredictable and continued restrictions? Well, meet the Sir Big Boss Nic who has been waiting for almost 50 years for the perfect timing to take the board exam. He finished his BSME degree at MAPUA Institute of Technology in the 1970s; however, he did not have a chance to take the exam in his early days due to financial difficulties and he decided to go abroad.

With his main assets - perseverance and hard work - he became very successful in his career running big projects including the iconic Burj Khalifa, Sobha Hartland developments, and Drake & Scull International in Dubai. He also worked as the general engineering manager in one of the biggest engineering firms in the world - managing hundreds of engineers and workers of different nationalities across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. He received many prestigious awards and recognitions for all his accomplishments throughout his career due to his attention to detail and technical expertise.

Despite being so successful in his career, Sir Nic never forgets the importance of a PRC license. In 2011, he started reviewing for the board exam, however, a few months before the board exam he suffered a heart attack that brought him into bed for almost 5 months. When the next review schedule was announced, he was the first who enrolled despite his body is still paralyzed. He can hardly move his neck due to the braces and he could not walk or write notes properly. Heart attack survivors experience memory loss, attention problems, and other cognitive issues. But because of his motivation and willingness, he commuted and walked through the scorching desert that would reach up to 50 degrees Celsius (@ relative humidity approx. 60%) just to attend the review program. With him was a bag full of medicines that he had to take every two hours but guess what, he was always on top of the class.

Fast forward 2020, Sir Nic had recovered and was actively attending review classes (his last evaluation exam was Mathematics =96%, Machine Design=95 %, and Power & Industrial Design=76%) however, he lost the chance again to take the board exam due to COVID-19. He is now 70+ years old but is still not giving up. Everyday, despite his busy schedule, he allocates time for his review and he is still very optimistic that one day, he will take the board exam and pass or even top it!

His message to his fellow aspirants “Don’t give up or quit, your day will come and it'll be just a matter of time. There's always time for everything for every reason. No matter what happens, God is there for guidance and give what is really for us despite challenges in life.”

"Trusting in God is being patient. Be patient, you never know how God is going to use you. It may take a little more time to do those things you aspire to do or achieve, but they will eventually get done. Yes, everything happens according to the will of God. Have faith in God and you will be successful. A man is not finished when he is defeated, he is finished when he quits."

Cancellation of board exams or failure on it is not the end of the world. Kapit lang and be optimistic that one day, your dream license will come.
