Respect your home. Make it their home.

Your child will never learn to respect your home if they have no stake in its upkeep.
Ownership is not a title; it is the sweat you put into something.

You provide everything. You clean everything.
You have created a beautiful hotel for them to live in, with a 24/7 maid service.

Let's stop pretending.
They are not a member of the family. They are a guest with lifetime privileges.

Why would they care about a mess they are not required to clean?
Why would they value a home they have no role in maintaining?
They have no investment in it, so they have no respect for it.

But the child who has to clean their own bathroom is less likely to make it a mess.
The child who has to help in the garden has a sense of pride in it.
Their labor forges a bond of true ownership.

If you want your child to respect your home, you must make it their home.
And the only way to do that is to make them responsible for a piece of it.
