I don’t know why, here in the Philippines, SOME people make such a big deal out of not being called by their title. Yes, we get it—you worked hard for it. Alam namin yan! But let’s be real: not everyone knows who you are, eh di ka nga kilala! Ano magagawa! and the world doesn’t revolve around your credentials.
In my line of work, I talk to professionals from different countries—doctors, lawyers, engineers—you name it. And guess what? I just call them John, Amy, Richard. Why? Because they’re secure enough to know their value isn’t tied to a title. They’ve told us themselves—real respect isn’t about demanding to be called “Attorney” or “Doctor.” It’s about how you treat people, whether they’re above or below you.
You want respect? Earn it with character, not with a name tag. A simple “sir” or “ma’am” is more than enough. Don’t act like the title makes you untouchable. It doesn’t. Kung bet mo pa tattoo mo sa noo.
