An older parking attendant came over and eagerly helped me line up my car just right. I tipped him, thanked him, and went off to have dinner.
When I came back after my meal, there he was again — standing by my car, ready to help me back out. As I got in, he smiled and said:
“Have a great evening, sir! I hope next time you’ll come have lunch at our restaurant.”
Read that again and think about what he did.
A parking attendant. An elderly man. At the end of a long shift. Inviting customers to the restaurant that gave him a job.
Employees who care — that’s what sets strong, healthy companies apart.
If your team doesn’t care what happens in your business… if they don’t share your values, take pride in their work, or celebrate your company’s success with you — you’re in serious trouble.
And when your business finally falls apart, it won’t be a mystery — it’ll just be a matter of time.
Work only with people who care. Their sense of ownership and pride isn’t something you can demand — it’s something you inspire as a leader.
“I hope next time you’ll come have lunch at our restaurant.”
I still can’t get over that.
He truly considered that restaurant his.
