The Alice Guo Conviction — May Justice, Pero ‘Wag Muna Tayong Mag-celebrate
After the bizarre origin story, the Senate circus, and the world’s longest “I reserve my right to self-incrimination" energy, finally — may accountability.
Pero bago tayo mag-hapi-hapi, let’s talk real talk.
1. Justice for the victims — sila dapat ang unang pasalamatan.
And this conviction sends a strong message: “Hindi maliit na kaso ang human trafficking. Hindi ito padulas-dulas lang.”
For once, may nanalo na ordinaryong tao. Rare ’yan.
2. Pero huwag magkamali: this is NOT a season finale.
Dissolved? Hindi pa.
You don’t run a massive POGO-scam-trafficking operation nang mag-isa.
May financiers.
May protectors.
May enablers.
This conviction is a plot twist — not the ending.
3. The bigger picture: POGOs, scams, and foreign infiltration are still alive and kicking.
Guo’s case pulled back the curtain on something uncomfortable: May mga operations sa Pilipinas na mukhang lokal, pero ang utak at pera — international. And minsan, may foreign intelligence vibes na pumapasok sa narrative.
Her conviction proves we can strike at a major node — but the network?
Nandiyan pa.
Kung hindi bantayan, babalik ’yan like a reboot nobody asked for.
But today, eto:
May nakulong.
May biktimang kinilala.
May sistema pang gumagana kahit minsan nagla-lag.
As Hontiveros pointed out, justice was served — but the fight is far from over.
Translation: “Guys, huwag nating isipin na enough na ’to.”
Hindi ito “biglang may compound with hundreds of trafficked workers.”
Somebody approved something.
Somebody signed something.
Somebody looked away.
Kung hindi tutukan ang mga taong ’yan, we’re fixing only the poster girl — not the system na gumawa sa kaniya.
6. So what now?
7. For today, celebrate the win — konti lang.
We deserve good news.
We deserve justice na hindi delayed by 10 years.
We deserve a plot twist that isn’t depressing.
Pero remember:
Justice isn’t complete until we fix the system that allowed an Alice Guo to exist in the first place.
So yes, mag-cheers tayo.
Soft drinks lang muna —
kasi bukas, trabaho ulit..
